The Music of Hildegard von Bingen Part 1

The production and performance duo of Micah Frank and Chet Doxas have embarked on a year-long project of researching, performing and documenting the works of the 12th Century luminary Hildegard von Bingen.

With production funding from The Canada Council for the Arts, they has begun developing an all-star roster of guest musicians and performers as they continue to explore these touchstones of early music.

ABOUT

New York based producers Micah Frank and Chet Doxas have worked together since 2018 when they converged on their debut ambient album All the Roads where upon its release became the #1 top-selling Bandcamp album for two weeks straight. Throughout 2019 the duo performed several ambient, tape and woodwind-infused live shows on the east coast.

Following up on their success with All the Roads - in 2021 - Frank and Doxas received significant production funds from the Canada Council for the Arts to produce a new album of music composed by Hildegard von Bingen. They are currently seeking a label partner to help with the final production, marketing and publication of this material.

Concurrent with their production schedule, they also host and perform at the Variations for Dusk series in Brooklyn, focusing on the city’s most intrepid experimentalists and live performers. Current collaborators include, Emi Makabe, David Torn, Okkyung Lee, Bill Orcutt, Mary Lattimore, Michael Formanek, Jacob Sacks, Jason Nazary, & Taylor Deupree.

Micah Frank is an award-winning electronic sound artist that uses algorithmic, generative and stochastic methods to build sound sculptures. Much of his work incorporates field recordings, hand-built software and real-time synthesis techniques. He is a 2019 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in music and sound from The New York Foundation for the Arts.
